Muncaster Castle is famous for its medieval tower-house and its impressive residents. Henry VI stayed in Muncaster during the War of the Roses. Allegedly, the late king left a drinking bowl at the castle where it remains today.
Lowther Castle is another impressive Lake District relic. Although it was demolished in 1957, the castle has been restored and renovated. Visit the grounds, and dine at their delicious cafe. Mirehouse is a famous family home and Lake District destination. Initially owned by the Earl of Derby, Mirehouse hosted famous poets like William Wordsworth. 4. VISIT DOVE COTTAGE IN GRASMERE
Dove Cottage is a must-visit Lake District destination, as it was the home of William Wordsworth from 1799 to 1808. Although the cottage is much more humble than a lot of other manors and castles, it’s steeped in history and full of relics from Wordsworth’s life.
