Munro Climbing in Perthshire
Munros are Scottish mountains over 3000 feet (915 metres). Perthshire is home to 28 of the 282 Munros across Scotland. If Munros are your interest, then Dunkeld House Hotel is a perfect base for some of Perthshire’s most spectacular Munro climbing. Just over an hour’s drive along the banks of Loch Tay, you will find the stunning range of Ben Lawers, where you can walk the spectacular range of 7 Munros within a day. Slightly closer to home, just an hour’s drive is our closest Munro Schiehallion, making for a lovely day out with views overlooking Loch Rannoch. Schiehallion is probably one of the best know Munros in Scotland. If you are a beginner, and looking for your first Munro to get out on, then Ben Chonzie classed as one of the easiest Munros in Perthshire (and Scotland) is only a 40-minute drive in the picturesque village Comrie. Beinn a’Ghlo towers over Blair Atholl and is a complex hill. With many ridges, summits, and corries, covering approximately 40 square kilometres.
The mountain resembles a miniature mountain range more than a single peak, with three Munros across the range. These are Carn Liath (976m), Bràigh Coire Chruinn-bhalgain (1070m), and Càrn nan Gabhar (1122m). For more serious Munro bagging in Perthshire, head for The Cairnwell. These are located behind the Glenshee Ski Centre. There are nine Munros around Glenshee. These may be a struggle to tackle all within one day, so if you wish to do all nine, then give yourself a couple of days to enjoy.
With the wide selection of Munros you will really find something for everyone.
