Outlander fans can now visit the hit TV series Scottish filming locations, with a free audio guide available on GeoTourist’s nifty mobile tour guide app. GeoTourist’s new ‘VisitScotland with Outlander’ audio tour was created in association with Visit Scotland. It allows Outlander fans to do their own self-guided tour around Scotland’s 42 filming locations where seasons one to four are filmed.
Jenni Steele, Film and Creative Industries Manager at VisitScotland, commented to GeoTourist:
“The Outlander Scottish Filming Locations Tour is a fantastic way for viewers to immerse themselves in the TV show and fall in love with Scotland, just as they fell in love with the story of Claire and Jamie. What better way to spend Valentine’s Day than to create your own romantic adventure in these unique settings.
“The impact of film and TV goes far beyond the production spend. With research finding that one in five visitors are inspired to plan a trip to Scotland after seeing it on-screen, the opportunities for the tourism industry are immense.”
Film Locations in Perthshire
We’ve made it no secret that the woodlands on Dunkeld House Hotel’s estate, double as North Carolina’s wilderness in series 4. It becomes a scenic backdrop to Jamie, Claire, and Young Ian’s journey, as they travel through the backcountry of colonial America to save Roger from the Mohawk.

The tour route starts in Edinburgh, travels up through Fife, Perthshire, and the Highlands. Then returns south through Loch Lomond and The Trossachs, Glasgow, and ends in Ayrshire.
Users can start their tour anywhere on the Outlander map. Using GPS technology the app recognises each user’s location. All they have to do is open the app, search for the Outlander tour, and find nearby filming spots to visit.
The Visit Scotland Outlander Tour Guide can be accessed by downloading Geotourist’s FREE App via their website, App Store, or Google Play.
Dunkeld House Hotel’s guide on the app provides information about the hotel’s 280-acre estate. Along with snippets of information about Dunkeld’s other historical landmarks, such as Thomas Telford’s Bridge, Dunkeld Cathedral, and Dunkeld’s quaint little houses.
But Dunkeld House Hotel isn’t the only place in Perthshire to be featured on the map. Other nearby filming locations include:
The 18th-century highland town of Kinloch Rannoch, where Claire and Frank spend their second honeymoon in season 1.
Timbermore Parish Church which appeared in ‘the Devils Mark’ episode in season 1, where Claire and Geillis’s witchcraft trial took place.
Drummond Castle Gardens, which became the Palace of Versailles gardens in season 2.
