The most beautiful places in the Lake District

We may be a little biased, but we believe that there is nowhere quite as beautiful as the Lake District where the Daffodil Hotel sits at the shores of the Grasmere Lake. With the Lake District National Park as well as parts of the Yorkshire Dales and North Pennines, Cumbria really does have it all.

It’s not just our love for our home that makes us think Cumbria is one of the most beautiful places on earth, however. In fact, we did a little research to find out where the UK’s most beautiful escapes are, and discovered that Cumbria accounted for six out of the 71 towns and villages.

We created a 3-day and 5-day itineraries for Lake District, in case you suffer from the choice paralysis!

1. Grasmere

As we are based in Grasmere, we know just how beautiful it is. The Daffodil sits on the shores of the lake so we get great views of the stunning scenery that makes Grasmere such a beautiful place to be.

The village is well known for its natural beauty and even served as the inspiration for the great poet, William Wordsworth. With 34 mountains and hills as well as six beauty spots, Grasmere ranked at number 16 on our list of beautiful escapes.

Grasmere is included in one of the best Circular Walks in Lake District

2. Keswick

Set in the north of the Lake District, Keswick took the top spot of the most beautiful escapes in the UK. It’s not hard to see why when you visit the breathtaking Derwentwater, or the dramatic Castlerigg Stone Circle.

As well as these notable spots, Keswick is also home to 20 areas of green space and 203 attractions and has more than 300,000 tagged posts on Instagram – clearly, visitors to Keswick agree that it is a picture perfect town.

3. Ambleside

Not far from Grasmere, you’ll find the town of Ambleside, a picturesque little place at the head of Windermere. Its location means that it is perfectly situated for enjoying the lake and taking in the fantastic views across the water.

Ambleside boasts 16 areas of green space and 14 beauty spots.

4. Hawkshead

The village of Hawkshead sits to the west of Windermere, with Esthwaite Water to the south. The village may be small, but it packs plenty in to the area, with attractions such as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, the Fitzwilliam Gallery, and a very popular chocolate shop, the Chocolate Factory!

5. Kentmere

On the River Kent, you’ll find Kentmere, a small village with plenty of natural beauty. With a population of just 159, the village is surrounded by spectacular scenery and is perfectly located to explore the Lakes, with Ullswater to the north and Windermere to the south.

6. Cartmel

Just south of the Lake District is the village of Cartmel, a historic place known for its 12th century priory and sticky toffee pudding! The village is close to the coast, where you can look out across Morcambe Bay towards Arnside & Silverdale AONB as well as Morecambe itself.
