What to Expect on A Spa Day
A spa day is a wonderful way to relax and unwind. It’s an experience that promises a break from the daily grind, allowing you to enjoy some much-deserved pampering.
While you’re sure to have a truly indulgent time at Daffodil Spa, it’s natural to feel a bit nervous about what to expect for your first time.
You may be asking yourself “What do I wear?” “What spa experience will I have?” or “Can I use all the spa facilities?” We’re here to help put your mind at ease!
This post will guide you through your first spa experience and help relieve any initial anxiety you may be feeling – spa days should be relaxing after all!
BEFORE YOUR SPA DAY
There’s not much you need to consider before a spa day. Still, here are a few tips to make you more comfortable so that you get the most out of your spa experience.
CHOOSING AND BOOKING A TREATMENT
Before scheduling a spa appointment, work out what type of treatment you want and what suits your needs best.
Daffodil Spa offers various indulgent treatments, the most popular being the massage and facial.
To avoid disappointment, we recommend you book ahead for your chosen spa treatment(s), as availability can be limited.
WHAT TO WEAR AND BRING
One of the most common queries for first-time spa-goers is what to wear. Our guide on what to wear and take on a spa break has a more comprehensive answer, as the attire depends on the specifics of your spa experience, such as whether it’s a one-day retreat or overnight stay.
If you’ve booked an overnight spa break, you’ll need sleepwear, a change of clothes, and anything else you would usually bring to a hotel or staycation spa.
You’re not required to bring anything to the spa, but here are some suggestions to ensure optimal comfort:
- Arrive wearing comfortable, non-restrictive clothing.
- Wear comfortable underwear. You’ll spend much of your time in a robe, but bring a change of clothing for after the treatment.
- Bring a swimsuit if you’re having the mud rasul treatment or using the steam rooms and thermal pool.
- Pack a good book or bring some headphones to listen to music – this experience is all about you feeling relaxed and comfortable!
ARRIVAL AT THE SPA
You should arrive 30 minutes before your first treatment. This allows time to get comfortable with your surroundings and take a breather in one of the relaxation rooms.
It’s wise to arrive early so you can complete any medical questionnaires regarding allergies, sensitivities and/or medical conditions.
DISCUSS PERSONAL REQUESTS
At the spa, your relaxation journey kicks off with a consultation with your therapist to discuss your preferences and what you want out of the visit. This way, your therapist can customise your treatment as much as possible. You can specify whether you’d prefer a male or female therapist.
Next, you’ll be taken to a changing room, where your therapist will let you know if you need to disrobe. If this is your first time at a spa, don’t panic! Therapists always respect clients’ privacy and allow ample time for getting changed.
CHANGE INTO SPA ATTIRE
Depending on your chosen spa treatments, you’ll need to change into your spa attire. You’ll be provided with a complimentary robe, slippers, and towel. However, you’re more than welcome to bring your own.
To ensure a seamless and stress-free experience, it is important to keep all personal belongings securely locked away in one of the provided lockers.
Before your therapy, take the time to stretch and relax in the relaxation room. This will help you to fully immerse yourself in the spa experience and leave you feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
Don’t forget to use the restroom beforehand!
DURING YOUR SPA DAY
Now it’s time to get into enjoying your first spa day! For many first-time spa-goers, this is the most daunting part. But remember, a spa day is all about relaxing.
You’ll be made to feel at ease and as comfortable as possible during your spa treatments.
WHAT TO EXPECT DURING YOUR TREATMENT
Once you’ve changed into your spa attire and donned your complimentary robe, your therapist will take you to the treatment room.
Here, they’ll help you prepare for the treatment. It’s natural to feel apprehensive about disrobing in front of spa staff. Our professional therapists understand and respect these concerns. Comfort is key, and it’s important to communicate any discomfort to your therapist.
You’ll be left in the treatment room alone to disrobe and get comfortable under a sheet on the table. Your therapist will knock lightly to see if you’re ready for your luxury pampering.
USING THE SPA FACILITIES
Once you’ve indulged in your spa treatments, you’re welcome to spoil yourself with the spa facilities too! Most spas have a hydrotherapy pool, steam room, thermal rooms, and more.
At the Daffodil Spa, we have various facilities to enhance your experience. You can add two hours of the Thermal Pool, Tepidarium, Sauna and Steam Room for an added fee to your spa package.
WHAT ARE THE BEST SPA TREATMENTS FOR FIRST-TIMERS?
Many newcomers ask which spa treatment is the best. This ultimately depends on what you want from your first spa experience.
To make the most of your first spa day, choose a treatment and service that specialises in your favourite type of self-care.
Many spas offer various treatments, but spa packages may limit your choice. Popular treatments include massages, body and facial therapies, and hand and feet treatments.
When selecting a spa treatment, consider:
- Your comfort level with nudity (some treatments require partial or full disrobing)
- Preference for a gentle or strong massage. There are many different massages available that range in intensity, such as a full-body massage, a deep tissue massage, a relaxation massage, and a Swedish massage. A relaxation massage is perfect for new spa-goers.

SPA ETIQUETTE
Not knowing how to behave at a luxury spa can be a source of anxiety for many first-time spa-goers.
To ensure you enjoy your spa visit, it’s best to familiarise yourself with spa etiquette before you go.
- Use your ‘spa’ voice: Speak in a hushed, calm voice to avoid disturbing other guests during their relaxing time.
- Shower beforehand: Spas enforce strict hygiene policies for the health and safety of guests. As a considerate gesture, it’s expected that spa visitors shower before using facilities or having treatments.
- Turn off your phone: This is to ensure peace and tranquillity not only for yourself but for other guests as well.
- Tipping: Tipping at spas is not common practice in the UK, but it is courteous.
- Avoid wearing perfume and makeup: Wearing makeup or perfume on a spa day is not necessary. This is especially true if you’re having a facial.
FAQS
WHAT TYPE OF SPA SHOULD I GO TO?
There are three main types of spas: hotel spas, destination spas, and day spas. Which one you go to will depend on your personal preferences.
A destination spa is often all-inclusive and centred around health and wellness. A hotel spa is an amenity offered by a hotel and is ideal for a relaxing spa staycation. Lastly, a day spa is like a mini-retreat for a few hours without staying overnight.
CAN I GO ON A SPA BREAK IF I’M PREGNANT?
There is no clear-cut rule when it comes to most spa treatments during pregnancy. The majority of spas don’t cater for clients in their first trimester but offer adapted or dedicated pregnancy treatments after, such as a pregnancy massage.
At the Daffodil Spa, we offer pregnancy treatments but advise against using the sauna, steam room, or rasul treatment.
